Akita Meijou Co., Ltd.

Akita Meijō Co., Ltd., the brewer of “Ranman” sake, is located in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, which is known as the southern gateway to Akita Prefecture. Yuzawa City has been a suitable region for sake brewing since the feudal era, with its high-quality rice, abundant water, and climate, which is why it was once called the “Nada of the Tohoku region.”

In 1922 (Taisho 11), Akita Meijō Co., Ltd. was established by sake brewers, politicians, and business leaders in the prefecture to promote the delicious and complex Akita sake throughout Japan. This year, the company is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The trademark for “Ranman” was decided through a public competition.

The current owner of the company is the 8th-generation sake brewer, Gaku Kyōno. The annual production of the company ranks within the top 30 out of 1,400 sake breweries in Japan, and it is among the top 5 in the Tohoku region.
